The 2nd annual "Home of the Free because of the Brave" Radiothon has another successful donor drive!
The radiothon was held on August 28th and 29th of 2010 and aired live on Thunder 102 from the Villa Roma Resort and Hotel. Members of the Committee for Families of Iraq and Afghanistan War Veterans worked side by side with volunteers from several businesses, Rotary and Lions clubs and friends from all over the Mid Hudson Valley to make the event a success. Thunder Radio broadcast the proceedings on Saturday till 5 pm and on Sunday until 1pm.
Sunday afternoon saw some great entertainment. Chris Barron (from the Spindoctors) and the Time Bandits who had recently returned from Iraq played. They were followed by performances from Elvis and the Roustabouts, Kamara Thomas and Jon Simmons among others.Rep. Aileen Gunther challenged Dan Briggs to jump into the Villa Roma pool and pledged $100.00 if he did. He was quickly followed by Bethel Supervisor, Dan Sturm so we received another $100.00 from Rep. Gunther and both Dan’s had a great time drying out.
Shop Rite cheered us all when they came in with a pledge of $35,000.00, which has since grown to $65,000.00.
We want to thank all of those dedicated people, some of which came all the way from Highland Falls to help us in our endeavor. We also want to thank all the wonderful people who picked up the telephone and called in their pledges. Your pledges have made it possible for us to help our veteran families when they are in need.
