MID-HUDSON FAMILIES OF SOLDIERS KILLED OR WOUNDED IN IRAQ OR AFGANISTAN TO BENEFIT FROM THRUWAY SHOPPING CENTER T-SHIRT SALES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

: Starting September 9th and continuing through the end of the year, Thruway Food Market & Shopping Center in Walden, New York, will sell t-shirts to raise funds for Mid-Hudson Valley families of soldiers killed or wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan. Thruway Food Market & Shopping Center will be the exclusive distributor of the t-shirt produced by the Committee for Hudson Valley Veterans, an ad hoc, a-political group dedicated to raising funds for the growing number of families in the region who have been killed or wounded in these conflicts. The artwork for the shirt was created by Mike O’Leary, a graphic designer from Sullivan, County.

“We approached Thruway Market because they are privately owned and centrally located. We have been overwhelmed by their eagerness to step forward and help with this cause,” remarks Ray McCarthy, chair of the Committee for Hudson Valley Veterans, a 501C not-for-profit organization.

To date, the t-shirts have contributed to the over $30,000 in funds the Committee has collected and distributed to over 20 families in the region. They have been sold at events and concerts, most notably with the support of Jimmy Sturr at his Monticello Gaming and Raceway concerts this season.

“This is a cause that touches so many of us throughout the region. We believe our community supports their troops. This will give them a way of expressing their support,” remarks Phil Larocco, Thruway Manager.    In addition to selling the t-shirts and donating 100% of the sales to the organization, Thruway is promoting the sales in their advertising.

The goal of the effort is to raise a significant amount of on-going funds for the families of those who gave so much to their country. “The need is enormous,” Mr. McCarthy adds. The Rodriguez, Allen and Ryan families are just three of the many families in the region who have and will receive funds from this effort.

Among the businesses and organizations backing the shirt sales with sponsorship dollars are Metropolitan Staffing-- a Herfield company, the Times Herald Record, Horizon Family Medical Group, United Polka Artists, The Ruby Group, O’Kane Construction, Inc., Team Shiff, Trotter’s Tavern, The Wilbur Group, Precision Pipeline, Arcadia Aviation, and Shamrock Helicopters.
