On July 3, 2010, many came to Morningside Park in Hurleyville to celebrate at The Francis Currey Day event which is held annually to honor our veterans and Local hero Francis Currey, who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service in WW II.  There was lots of fun, music, food, dancing and fireworks.

ROLLING THUNDER ® Chapter 4, NY Salute to Veterans Ride VIII

 This years’ ride is in conjunction with “The Home of the Free Because of the Brave” radiothon at the Villa Roma Resort on Sunday, August 29, 2010.

Riders will start forming up at 11:00 AM in the staging area in front of the Monticello Shop-Rite located in the Thompson Plaza on State Route 42, Monticello, N.Y.

Sgt. Eddie Ryan, USMC, and family will be honoring us by leading the ride this year.

Suggested donation of $10 per person - checks to be made out to,  SCAF Com. For Families of War Vets, at our destination.

Golf Tournament for local Families of fallen or wounded Iraq and Afghanistan soldiers raises $20,000

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: On Monday, June 28^th, Barbara Allen of Chester, New York, wife of the late Lieutenant Louis Allen, addressed the gathering at the Committee for the Families of Iraq and Afghanistan War Vets’ third annual Golf for Good outing and expressed her gratitude for the Committee’s work on behalf of the families of local soldiers wounded or killed in Afghanistan. It was the first time Ms. Allen has spoken at a fundraising event.

The tournament netted over $15,000 for local families—over three times the amount raised at last year’s outing.

For most it is a three-day weekend, filled with bar-b-que’s and picnics . . . A time to get away from the normal humdrum of the week. For other’s it’s the beginning of summer, a time to look towards the long lazy days and a time to plan your summer get-a-ways. Though for some, Memorial Day holds a special significance.
