The moment she saw the military entourage at her door in 2005, Barbara Allen's life took a turn that she never would have imagined possible to endure. In the five years since her husband Louis Allen and his friend Phillip Esposito were reported murdered by a fellow U.S. soldier in Iraq, leaving their wives at home to raise their children who would never again see their dads, she has documented her search for answers to the many questions that left her sleepless for many long nights.
Her first book "Front Toward Enemy" is a heartbreaking, wrenching account that allows the reader to enter her very personal and private world of devastating loss. She tells of the very normal relationship that she had with her husband Lou who told her he was signing up to go to Iraq at a dinner he took her out for on her birthday. She describes with foreboding, how they both made it through services for other soldiers who had been killed there and how Lt. Allen even presented the flag to one of the families. She made him promise that he wouldn't put her through that; a promise he couldn't keep.
