Golf Tournament for local Families of fallen or wounded Iraq and Afghanistan soldiers raises $20,000

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: On Monday, June 28^th, Barbara Allen of Chester, New York, wife of the late Lieutenant Louis Allen, addressed the gathering at the Committee for the Families of Iraq and Afghanistan War Vets’ third annual Golf for Good outing and expressed her gratitude for the Committee’s work on behalf of the families of local soldiers wounded or killed in Afghanistan. It was the first time Ms. Allen has spoken at a fundraising event.

The tournament netted over $15,000 for local families—over three times the amount raised at last year’s outing.

Ms. Allen husband was killed in Iraq leaving her with four young sons.  Lieutenant Allen’s parents were also present at the event to thank the Committee for their dedication to all families in the region who have suffered similar losses. The Committee was inspired to organize to help local veteran families after seeing the Allen family’s picture on the front page of the Times Herald Record. Today, the Committee also helps returning soldiers gain employment, cover emergency expenses and meet a variety of other needs.

The Metropolitan Companies, Inc. were platinum sponsors. O’Kane Construction was a gold sponsor. Also organizing and sponsoring were Merrill Lynch (Christopher Rice, Vice President - Financial Advisor) Northwestern Mutual Financial Network (represented by David Suzzan).
